WHAT'S A SWELL FOOP?
A swell foop is anything you do to make the
world better, cleaner, and more sustainable – while staying positive and optimistic. That's why we say we can’t save the world in one fell swoop, but we think we can save it in one swell foop. All of our seemingly little actions--our swell foops--will add up to a whole lot of change. So: do good and feel better!
Swell Foop!
Buy an organic cotton shirt. Cotton is grown on only 3% of the world's farmland, yet uses 25% of the world's insecticides. Each organic cotton t-shirt that you buy saves one-third pound of chemicals from our groundwater and supports sustainable agriculture.
Swell Foop!
Eat lower on the food chain. It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce one pound of meat. One pound of soy requires 250 gallons. A pound of wheat uses only 25 gallons.
Swell Foop!
Turn off your computer when you’re not using it. Using power management on your desktop computer can save 900 kilowatt-hours a year, or 1,500 pounds of carbon dioxide.
Swell Foop!
Use the low-power dishwasher setting. You rarely need to use anything other than the light-wash setting. You can reduce water usage up to 55% and save the energy required to heat those extra gallons.
Swell Foop!
Use CFL lightbulbs. A 25-watt CFL casts as much light as a 75-watt incandescent and lasts 10 times longer. Five CFLs will save $400 over their lifetime. If you don’t like the cold blue light you’ve seen from CFLs, buy ones marked “3200 Kelvin.” They have a color much closer to the warm light of incandescent bulbs.
